Military Working Dog Cooling Vest Drive 6/22/2011

KFA has donated a cooling vest and extra packs for a MWD assigned to Marines in Helmand Province, Afghanistan where temps are reaching 110-140 degrees. The need is so urgent we didn't wait to raise the $$ and took it out of our treasury.

Here you can see photos of the dogs in their cooling vests with their handlers.

DESPERATELY NEEDED
for
Twinkie and/or Zoltan.... Valerie (Eastman) Traylor's last two personal dogs. Valerie is no longer able to give these Ghosthill dogs the home they deserve. Would you consider taking Twinkie or Zoltan into your home? They do NOT need to be placed together. Please contact Ivonne if you can help.kuvaszrescue@earthlink.net

Ghosthill’s Sugar Mountain

"Twinkie"

is 7 years old, housetrained. She gets along well with big dogs, but isn't crazy about small dogs. Unknown about cats or children. Walks well on leash and needs a home that will give her lots of TLC.

Now that Twinkie has been cleaned up, well fed and excercised by her foster home, you can really see that classic Ghosthill look. Please open your heart and home to Twinkie.

Ghosthill's Nevetes Szultan "Zoltan" is 7 years old, housetrained, neutered. He has a gimpy front leg from a birth injury that was never treated. He limps slightly, but can jump into and out of cars just fine. He'll never be a marathon runner - more like a big, couch potato! His current foster home reports no aggression towards people or other big dogs. Unknown about small dogs, cats, or children.

AVAILABLE NOW!

Angel is a lovely 7 year old spayed female who is currently in a foster home near Charlotte, North Carolina and available for adoption. One of Angels previous owners passed away, and the remaining owner was no longer able to care for her. Her papers were lost when the previous owner moved after becoming widowed.

Angel is a happy and healthy girl!  She has a typical Kuvasz personality in that she is aloof at first but quickly warms up and loves the attention and affection of humans.  She is fully housebroken, knows basic commands, has good manners and weighs 127 pounds. She is a bit overweight and is currently on a reducing diet.

Angel would do well in a home where she could live inside and have access to a fenced in yard.  She is great on a leash and loves to walk and go for rides in the car.  Angel has lived with another dog in the past and they got along fine.  Her previous owner reports she has lived with cats in the past.  Angel is fully vetted and ready to go to her new forever home.

6 Karpati Dogs still in foster care!

Paul Korniczky, owner of Karpati Kuvasz died June 1, 2006 leaving no instructions for the care of the dozens of dogs in his kennel.  Can you adopt one of these dogs? Visit http://kuvaszrescue.us/

Jerry in Rhode Island is a 4 year old neuterd male from Kilde Kennels. His owner loves him very much but can no longer afford to keep a roof over his head. His breeder will not take him back. UPDATE as of May 2011, owner will keep him

Sampson is a 1-1/2 year old neutered male in Phoenix. He is from Windflower kennels. The owner no longer wants him and dumped him at a shelter. KFA Rescue retrieved him, figured out who he is, notified the breeder and she has no interest in taking him back.
UPDATE March 2011 Placed with the assistance of Carla Shugg, THANKS CARLA!!!

Murray adopted October 2010

"MURRAY"comes into rescue following the death of his family in San Diego. His papers were not found when the estate was settled. He is about 2 years old, weighs 80+ pounds, is neutered, microchipped, and current on shots.

Angelo adopted June 2010

Angelo is very large, probably Kuv-Pyr mix, 2 years old, neutered. Turned into shelter for killing chickens. Gets along with neutered males and females dogs, cats unknown. Needs to be cured of jumping on people. Friendly and otherwise well mannered. Sits/lays down on command, takes treats gently from fingers.

Max is now in a better place

In northeastern Oregon

"Max"

Tagos Just Max, WS09150602, born 07/05/2004

Sire: Tagos Macko Of Assur
Dam: Szumeria's Minnie Just

Breeder: David Fournier, Sunset TX.

Due to lifestyle change, owner must find Max a new home. Breeder will not take the dog back or assist with placement.

Owner placed Max as a working dog and the farmer returned him after 8 months. Max harassed the lambs. Owner euthanized Max June 2010.

What did we learn from this sad case? We believe that the owner who needs to get rid of her dog is probably not able to make objective decisions in the best interest of the dog. If someone needs our help in placing their dog, KFA will interview potential adopters and determine the most appropriate home for the dog.

Gus & Bullet adopted together September 2009

Josh is adopted!!!! July 2009

His foster family decided to keep him. Thanks to Denise and Jen and all their critters for making room for Josh permanently!

He is a mystery Big White Dog.

Anatolian Shepherd Dog mix? Kuvasz mix?

He followed some hunters out of the woods by the Green River in Utah. With no residences around for miles, they took Josh home and gave him to a relative in Southern California. The woman tried her best to teach this BIG youngster some manners, but finally had to face the fact that he was too much for her.

Thanks to your donations, KFA Rescue was able to neuter him and bring him up to date on shots and worming. We had someone work with him on basic manners. He went to Northern California to be a buddy for a male kuvasz about his size. He could stay IF he was OK with a variety of small animals and pet goats. He didn't pass that test. Josh needs to be in another home NOW as he desperately wants to get out of his kennel to get the goats.

Are you thinking ... "This is a rare breed, there couldn't possibly be that many rescues, you don't need my help" ???

Are you shopping for a puppy and want to know which breeders have a history of not taking their dogs back?

Homefinders

The following Kuvasz are being rehomed by their breeders. These are healthy, well adjusted dogs that for one reason or another are looking for a new family to join. If raising a puppy doesn't appeal to you and none of the rescue dogs are suitable, an adult dog from their breeder is a great choice.

no Homefinders now, to list a dog in this section mail Gail S. Dash

Kuvasz Fanciers of America, Inc. a California Non-Profit Corporation, was founded in 1985 in response to the degeneration of correct Kuvasz type in North America. KFA is dedicated not just to the preservation and promotion of the authentic Hungarian Kuvasz, but also to the support of ethical breeder conduct, rescue of Kuvaszok in distress, public education, and sponsorship of Kuvasz events and activities.  KFA's volunteer rescue network has been instrumental in rescuing, rehabilitating and finding new homes for abandoned, abused and other victimized Kuvaszok. Most of these dogs are happy, healthy, attractive animals who adapt rapidly and with gratitude to loving new owners.

KFA Rescue needs your donations for shelter impound fees, vet bills, and transportation.
