Hollis adopted by Paul Voight

Hollis is named after a small town in Maine where his rescuers, Leanne and Brauhn Parks live; the name just seems to fit. I have been most surprised by Hollis' affectionate nature, he loves to snuggle and will get in the easy chair with you in a moment! Likes to sleep in bed, except is still learning that if you get too close to the edge you fall off, there have been several thumps in the night!

Hollis is also quite a thief, he loves to grab a jacket, shirt, pants, blanket and drag it off in a very dignified manner-but no chewing on it thank goodness!

Although this is my second kuvasz, he is very much different than my first in personality, such a goofball and playful boy. Of course it could be age too, we'd thought he was around 2, but now think younger than that. I am on a learning curve also, its easy to forget in such a big boy that he is really very young in terms of exposure to the world, so we are working on helping me to remember he needs all the socialization most kuvasz get at a very young age.

Hollis loves to run in the pastures (has a taste for rabbit berries just like my previous girl Reka!), and actually likes to do somersaults! The first time I saw him do it I thought it was just a fluke, but he does it quite often on purpose. He has so far been very good with the cows, of course we are taking that slow just like his other new experiences.

Like many of the other Karpati, Hollis had not seen TV, heard a dishwasher, garage door opening, etc and he spent 20 minutes with a rocking chair on the back porch one day, he was just amazed and a little suspicious how the chair could move by itself after he bumped it!

He has begun a very nice coat, much improved over his short coat after being rescued and is putting on weight nicely. Oh and don't forget the purring, he will often purr almost like a cat when getting a good ear rub.

I feel very fortunate to have Hollis with me and thank Leanne and Brauhn for saving him and letting him come to Virginia with me.

Castine adopted by Ken and Ann Karcich
(shown with Gyro)
She is coming along very well, even running around the house instead of hiding in dark places. She is not out of the woods yet, but she is starting to behave like a real dog.

We took her to the groomers yesterday, for a bath which she desperately needed and she thought it was the end of the world. But the groomer really  knows how to handle dogs and after the traumatic experience was over, she came home and dived into her crate.

Ours is a dog friendly house, so we have blankets and dog beds located at strategic locations, and Castine is actually using them. When I call to her she is actually coming to get petted. She does really like affection and petting, because it is something new. The real change in her that is new, is that she is walking around the house, not hiding in a hidy hole. She is actually starting to let out her assertive side.

We still have never heard her bark, but she does growl at Gyro when he attempts to move in on her bowl.

All in all, we are pleased with the progress she is making. Patience is the key, but she is a really nice dog. We are continually surprised at the things she is doing, as she continues her progress out of that shell.

Colby adopted by Paula Alexander

Colby was a Karparti rescue. He was timid. Made a bear rug of himself when the phone rang. Darted into my bedroom at every odd noise (like a blender, the microwave dinging, etc). Dragged a leash about the house for a good two weeks as he was such a spooky boy. That was just late August.
Now Colby is my best buddy. He is a one person dog. I am his person. He is my big fluffy white boy. He is a house pet. His livestock are my other dogs (I have two, one who has a litter on the ground) and my teenagers.

Colby has sat in the whelping box with puppies. He has curled up on his special blanket (which he himself unfolds and spreads beside my bed if I forget it in the closet) with the cats. He allows my 4 year old niece and my 3 year old nephew to play "Groom Colby" with slicker brushes and combs. He guards my home when I work nights. And just this week was a great deterrent to auto break-ins when we went Christmas shopping together.

Colby has graduated from puppy obedience class. He was the 120 pound puppy trembling when first arriving to the very first class. He heels. He re-calls. He sits on command. The down is a work in progress.

Words can not express how much Colby means to my family. We are forever grateful to Leanne Parks and Kuvasz rescue for saving this great big puppy dog. He is worth every effort as he is such a sweet loving loyal dog.

May all the Karparti rescues find their own homes this new year!!!
